Metal medals, as exquisite works of art, hold significant symbolic meaning and honor in various competitions, events, and award ceremonies. The purpose of this article is to provide a comprehensive guide on how to customize the production of metal medals to meet customers’ personalized needs.
Artwork Design:
Mostly we use Adobe illustrator or Corel Draw to make artwork design, If you have vector file in eps, cdr, pdf will be big help for our artist to make artwork quickly. For complicated 3D item, digital 3D proof can be provided if necessary. Each color will be Stated in Pantone solid coated colors.
Mold Tooling:
After your artwork proof approved, the CNC tooling will be started. Once tooling made, a new mold will be needed if any change.
Stampling / Pressing / Die Casting
Stampling/Pressing/Die Casting will start proceeding once molds ready, this step for branding your custom logo on the raw material.
High-precision Pressure:
For high precision badge, coins or some products with complicated detail, then will be made by High-precision pressure machine, this way compared with stampling cost more and slowly.
Cutting Shape:
Cutting molds are made for cutting exact outline. Additional cutting molds may be required depending on the complexity of the design. Extra cutting mold will be needed if there is inner cut on products. (Only for staming and pressing products).
Deflashing
The sharp edges and small burrs will be needed to remove and clean away. (Only for Die Casting Products).
Fixing Attachment:
Now different attachment will be needed to fix onto the back of each product accordingly to your orders requirement.
Polishing:
The metal surface is then polished until it is smoothly and shiny. This must be applied before plating for all metal products.
Plating Finish:
Plating now can be proceed. The quality of plating varies with the length of time the metal is soaked in the plating liquid. Different metal color will be made by this process like gold, silver, nickel, brass, copper etc… So if the metal products need an antique or matt looks, then more steps in plating will be needed.
Coloring:
Enamel coloring is carefully injected by hand, one color each time, using different sized syringes. After one color drying then go ahead to next coloring. To prevent defects, a high degree of skill is required in order to keep each color in actual solid pantone colors and the correct amount of enamel in the proper area.
Baking:
Each coloring in-field finished will be needed to bake drying before go next coloring. That means 3 coloring need 3 times of bake drying.
Epoxy Cover:
Epoxy is economy way to protect the soft enamel, after epoxy cover the surface looks a little dome, shiny and glass looking. Need or no need depends on customer’s order requirement.
